Dogs and Chocolate

Rewarding your dog with the occasional treat is not a bad thing. However, what is safe for humans is not always safe for your canine companion. Chocolate can sicken and even kill dogs, and it is one of the most common causes of canine poisoning, veterinarians tell WebMD.

Be sure to keep Halloween candy out of reach and be careful, accidents happen quickly! There is a safer alternative and quite popular with dog bakeries. Carob (Ceratonia silique) which has a similar flavor to chocolate is “rich in vitamins A, B, B1, B2, B3, B6 and D, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, and protein. Carob is also rich in fiber and pectin which eliminates toxins.” Truly a dog’s chocolate!
