We’ve had a great experience all around with Jenny, Kathleen, and everyone else at Atlantic K9, whether on the phone, in training or via email! Based on recommendations from two neighbors, we sent Blaze, our mostly lab/pit mix, to the boot camp training a few months before he turned two. As a high energy, very food motivated pup, Blaze was easy to train on the basics, but he had a tendency to run away when in the woods off leash (high prey drive) and was very jumpy on people, especially when meeting new people. Having been with Blaze since he was three months old, we spent a fair amount of time on his training, but were not super rigid about it, and as a result, Blaze only listened to us when he felt like it, or after he was done sniffing, exploring or greeting people by licking them in the face.
Not any more! The very balanced combination of positive reinforcement and correction worked like a charm! It took some practice on our end to get the hang of the e-collar, but now Blaze pays attention to us every time – it’s truly been transformational! I wouldn’t say he’s a “different dog” – he’s still the same goofball with a big personality he was before, but just a very well behaved one, which is exactly what we were after. It’s a much more enjoyable experience hiking with Blaze off leash knowing that he will come when called, every time. And our extended family, friends and neighbors appreciate him keeping all paws on the ground when saying hi.
I love that Jenny was so well prepared to take Blaze in at drop off and had carefully read his detailed profile – it definitely made me feel more comfortable when dropping him off for 2 weeks that he was in very good hands. The follow up phone calls and follow up training sessions were well timed and super helpful to reinforce the theory and practice of the training. Love the boarding option too for some free play with other well behaved dogs and brush up on training. Highly recommend Atlantic K9!
